B.Sc. Biomedical Sciences at Reutlingen University
Bioengineering intern at Fraunhofer CMI at Boston University
As an undergraduate intern in Fraunhofer CMI’s Department of Bioengineering, I worked on rapid antibiotic susceptibility diagnostics. I assisted in the optimization of the microfluidic model and in the validation of the AST method by running experiments on different microbe/antibiotic pairs.
I took part in this program because I wanted to gain more practical experience in an interesting project, particularly one that tackles a current major health problem. Additionally, it offered me the opportunity to improve my English skills and to familiarize myself with the country and its people.
This internship turned out to be one of the best experiences in my life and I can wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone. Not only does it force you to challenge yourself and increase both your private and work independence, it also broadens your social network with interesting and bright-minded individuals from all over the world, creating connections that you can further strengthen over a lifetime.
